CHRISTIAN CAMBAS AT 422:MASS HALLOWEEN

422:Mass is turning AUX Club into a Halloween rave on Friday 30 October, and the name at the top of the bill is Christian Cambas, one of the most respected artists Greek techno has ever produced. Doors open at 23:30 for eight hours of psy tech, hard techno, hard bounce and schranz, with a lineup that brings together some of the strongest young selectors from Athens and Thessaloniki. Halloween outfits are recommended.

Christian Cambas: A Greek Techno Pioneer

Christian Cambas was born in the United States, grew up in Athens and studied at Berklee College of Music before coming home to build a career very few Greek DJs can match. In 2005 he entered the DJ Mag Top 100 at number 88, the first Greek artist ever to make the list. Back then he was playing progressive house next to names like John Digweed, Sasha, Nick Warren and Carl Cox, but his sound kept getting harder and faster over the years.

His productions have landed on labels such as DJ Umek’s 1605, Toolroom and Great Stuff, he runs Sabotage Records together with Press & Play, and for years he hosted the Molotov Cocktail podcast, which ran for more than 300 episodes. In Athens he was a key part of the Greek Techno Rebels parties alongside Axel Karakasis, and his more recent tracks have been played by Carl Cox and Amelie Lens. Today Christian Cambas is fully at home in hard techno and schranz, which makes him a natural fit for a 422:Mass night.

Athens Meets Thessaloniki

422:Mass describe this bill as the strongest of Athens and SKG, and the lineup backs that up. ARETÉ and MUZAN, both residents of Dyspnea, make their Athens debuts, while DEADLY8, NAYLA and the back to back pairing of ME:TRUE and SE7EN complete a roster built for speed. Expect psy tech grooves early on, building into full hard bounce and schranz pressure as the hours pass.

Halloween at AUX

AUX Club on Agiou Orous Street hosts the night, and a Halloween edition gives it an extra edge, with masks, makeup and dark outfits all over the floor. Generation Act will also be on site offering support and care, part of the organisers’ focus on making the party a safe space for everyone. If you are in Thessaloniki that weekend instead, MVMNT brings DJ Angel to Soul for its own Halloween party the following night.

Tickets

Presale tickets start from 10€ on More.com, with tickets also available at the door. As a bonus, one random presale ticket wins a Golden VIP Ticket for a future 422:Mass event of the winner’s choice. Entry is strictly 18+.

What to Expect

This is a night for people who like their techno fast. With a veteran like Christian Cambas headlining and a pack of hungry young DJs around him, the energy should stay high from the first set until the morning. If you want a feel for where his sound is right now, his hard techno and schranz set for Meros Radio below is a good place to start. Christian Cambas also returns on 26 December for Signal with Holy Priest at Sunel Arena, so this will not be your last chance to catch him this season.

Two Generations on One Bill

Nights like this say a lot about where Greek club culture is right now. Hard techno and its faster cousins have exploded across Europe in the last few years, and Athens has followed with crews building their own scenes around the sound. Putting a name like Christian Cambas, who was there when Greek techno first broke out internationally, next to DJs making their Athens debuts creates a real link between two generations. For younger ravers it is a chance to hear a pioneer up close, and for older heads it is proof that the energy never went anywhere.
